Overmountain Sams

Hello guys, we wish you could be here with us.

I wish we had better phone service up here, but the only time we get a signal is about 9 miles away from our campground and we seldom go in that direction. But it's worth it because this is a beautiful place. Essentially the area is a large island called Mount Desert Island. That is pronounced as "dessert" as in ice-cream or "desert" as in the Sahara. Both ways are acceptable, but the natives pronounce it as the sweets following supper because it is derived from a French word. Anyway, the main island is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and lots of inland bays along with many smaller islands. It is also the location of Cadillac Mountain, the highest peak on the Atlantic seaboard, and several small towns, and of course, the town of Bar Harbor. Our RV park is located on Frenchman Bay and our motorhome looks out on the water.
