Good Sam Clean-up Day

Lena's and Ed's Good Sam Clean-up Day project, this year, was at Lake Keokee, in Lee County, Virginia. With tranquil waters and a wilderness setting, it's one of our favorite kayaking locations. It is also a favorite of local fishermen.

Lake Keokee is a 92-acre impoundment surrounded by George Washington and Jefferson National Forest lands, and offers fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, and channel catfish. The 3.7 mile trail around the lake is for hiking, fishing and wildlife watching. Most of the land around the lake is wooded with hardwoods.

We began by walking around the perimeter of the lake, picking-up bottles, cans and other trash. We then got in our kayaks and paddled around the lake, picking up floating debris. All in all, it was a great way for us to combine community service with one of our favorite recreational activities.
