Overmountain Sams

We are starting a new page dedicated to news of our members' travels and other news that they would like share.

Deborah & Joe submitted this entry describing their recent trip to Maine and other places.

Our holiday actually started with our Overmountain Sams campout at Riverside RV Park in Sevierville, TN. We stayed over, along with Milton and Judy Paul and Bob Harrison for the following weekend of Bluegrass in the Smokies. Every night before and during the bluegrass festival we got to pick and sing in the campground with other bluegrass musicians.

After the bluegrass festival we were home for two days, then headed to Williamsburg, Virginia, for a week. We also spent a day at Jamestown, since 2007 was the 400th anniversary of its founding. Phil and Betty Hicks joined us for the last 3 days we were at Williamsburg.

While in Williamsburg, we stayed at Rockahock Campground. It was OK, but a little farther away from Williamsburg than some of the other campgrounds we've stayed at before. Unfortunately, there are no good campgrounds near Williamsburg and we have tried them all.

We left Williamsburg and headed to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for a couple of days. We stayed at the Little Drummer Boy Campground, very close to the Battlefield and the town of Gettysburg. Gettysburg is such a sad, sad place.

From Gettysburg we headed to Mystic Seaport, Connecticut. We stayed at a really nice campground call Aces High in East Lyme, CT. They had large, level sites with lots of room between RVs and we were able to have a campfire one night. We spent a day at Mystic Seaport looking at old sailing ships - whaling ships, etc. We both love the sea and think that in some previous life, there must have been some mariners in our family. However, once Joe saw what the sailors had to go through to set and put up sails, he decided his ancestors must have been captains!!

Leaving Mystic we headed to York Harbor and our favorite Maine campground, Libby's Oceanside Park. Our usual space (#16) was waiting for us and the campground owners, Norm and Candie Davison welcomed us back again!. Below is a picture of our motorhome -- notice the ocean behind us. The next picture is of  Deborah sitting behind our motorhome (this gives you an idea of the RVs here).

While here, we volunteered at the Nubble Lighthouse (most photographed lighthouse in America) gift shop . We have also eaten our share of lobsters and have enjoyed campfires every night and cooking out.

We enjoy meeting all our campground neighbors. Our good friends from Boca Raton, Florida are staying near us and we have been making several day trips with them, such as to Ipswich, Massachusetts, for some Ipswich clams!!  Patches has enjoyed the trip, too, and always has to have a bite or two of lobster whenever we eat one. The weather was perfect -- warm days (in the 60s to 70's) and cool nights (down in the 40's a couple of times)

September has always been our favorite time of year to travel. No matter where you go, the weather is still very nice and the crowds are non-existent!
